Belarus adopts telecom development programme

The Belarusian government has adopted a resolution entitled 'Telecommunications Development programme 2006-2010,' which lays out the development of the country's telecom and IT sectors.

Under the resolution, the government intends to increase the amount of digital equipment at automatic exchanges to 80 per cent and to increase the number of fixed-line telephone penetration rate to 38 per 100 inhabitants. The government also intends to increase the number of mobile subscribers to eight million.
