MINSK, Nov 7 (Prime-Tass) -- Belarusian-Russian joint venture Mobile TeleSystems Belarus, or MTS Belarus, applied on November 1 for the third generation (3G) mobile services in Belarus, the company said in a statement Tuesday.
The company had tested 3G services in UMTS/HSDPA standard earlier this year, the company said, adding that the results showed demand for the next generation services.
MTS Belarus had 2.975 million mobile users as of November 1. The company's key shareholders are Belarus? Mezhdugorodnaya Svyaz (Intercity Communications) with 51% and Russia's largest mobile phone operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) with 49%.
