Belarus hopes for loan from Nomura by year end

Reuters

MINSK, Nov 1 - Belarus hopes to secure a loan from Nomura Bank by the end of the year, the central bank said, without referring to its size, though the government has talked of borrowing $1 billion.

"This will probably happen by the end of the year. The talks are about credit from Nomura bank," central bank head Pyotr Prokopovich told journalists. He gave no further details.

He also said the bank had no intention of lowering its key refinancing rate in November because of concerns over inflation. In the first nine months of the year inflation rose to 5.4 percent against 3.1 percent in the same period last year.

The bank last cut the rate at the end of September to to 10 percent and aims to cut it further to 7-9 percent by the end of this year.
