Belarus Jewish Leadership Meets with Israel's Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi

MINSK, Belarus A group of leaders from the Jewish community of Belarus, have returned home from a successful visit to Israel. The delegation was headed by Rabbi Shneur Deutch, who is serving in this East European country as a Chabad Lubavitch emissary.

As part of their journey, participants visited Jewish holy sites and historical places, as well as enjoying the opportunity to meet with the Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi of Israel, Yonah Metzger. In his turn, Rabbi Shneur Deutch spoke about the revitalization of Jewish life in Belarus and the challenges experienced by Jewish leaders in developing the local community. Chief Rabbi Metzger thanked his guests for their hard work and dedication to the Jewish community and expressed hope that the Jewish Diaspora in Belarus will continue to become stronger.

Other key highlights of the visit were a visit to the Wailing Wall, where members of the delegation engaged in traditional prayers, as well as a meeting with Lev Leviev, the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS and Head of the Ohr Avner Foundation. During their discussion, the renowned philanthropist expressed great appreciation for the initiative and achievements of the visiting Jewish leaders and reassured them that he will continue to support the Jewish community that is blossoming in Belarus.
