Belarus increased grain import by 29.6% in January-August

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis of Belarus, in January-August the country increased the import of grain by 29.6% as compared to the analogous period last year.

The average price per tonne under the import contracts during the reported period was $232, up 27.8% as compared to the same period last year.

The highest volume was delivered by Kazakhstan (205.700 tonnes). During the same period in 2006, Kazakhstan delivered only 45.500 tonnes.

Besides, Belarus imported also 200.900 tonnes of grain from Ukraine (down 10.1% as compared to January-August 2006) and 77.000 tonnes from Russia (up 2.1 times).

In addition, Moldova - 14.800 tonnes (+53.1%), Pakistan - 9.700 tonnes (+15.7%), Lithuania - 9.100 tonnes (down 8.3 times) were also among the suppliers of grain to Belarus.
