Belarus sends humanitarian aid to drought-stricken Moldova

MINSK, November 29 (Itar-Tass) - Belarus has sent the first humanitarian consignment to drought-stricken Moldova, the Belarussian Emergencies Ministry told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

"The carriages with 150 tonnes of potatoes will cross the Belarussian-Ukrainian border late on Thursday, the Ministry's secretary, Vitaly Novitsky, said.

On December 1, Belarus will send 100 tonnes of winter wheat to Moldova.

Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev requested the Belarussian government to provide assistance. Belarus' Council of Ministers adopted a special decree on humanitarian assistance to Belarus.

The humanitarian cargo, including delivery costs is estimated at 100,000 US dollars. The aid is provided by the republic's emergency fund.
