Belarus: About 70 applicants for Eurofest

Both young and established artists will participate

The deadline for the submission of songs to the Belarussian broadcaster BTRC is already closed. About 70 applicants will participate in the preliminary phase of the national selection Eurofest, and in a few days the shortlist of the 15 finalists will be announced. Amongst this year's hopefuls there are both young and well established artists.

The number of applications submitted this year surpasses the total of bids received in the previous edition of Eurofest, BTRC's Veronika Perepelkina states. About 70 artists are interested in representing Belarus in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Belgrade in May 2008.

Both new talents and established artists from the Belarussian show business are amongst this year's group of hopefuls. The Belarussian broadcaster BTRC will now proceed, after a voice live audition, to narrow them down to a short list of 15 performers that will be shown on TV in January.

The winner of Eurofest 2008 will be the Belarus' representative in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. Belarus will participate in one of the two semifinals scheduled for May 20th and 22th.
