Vladimir Potupchik elected President of Belarus Athletics

Vladimir Potupchik, the Belarusian Government Minister for Work and Social Issues, has been elected as the new President of Belarus Athletics Federation.

Potupchik received 91 out of a possible 97 votes at the Belarusian Federation's National Conference in Minsk this Monday. The other candidate in contention was businessman Sergey Kasyanenko, with former President (2003) Aleksandr Rudskikh, and current Vice-President Anatoliy Baduyev, withdrawing from the election before the vote.

The current President, Leonid Mikhailovskiy, did not stand for re-election, and Baduyev remained in post as Vice-President and Head Coach, while former World and European 400m Hurdles champion Tatyana Ledovskaya has taken up post as the New General Secretary.

As well as the Federation elections, the conference also presented the opportunity for Belarus to set down their ambitious goals to achieve between 7-8 medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
