Latvia proposes more Riga-Minsk direct flights

Latvia has proposed to increase the number of direct flights Riga-Minsk, Latvian Minister of Transport Ainars Slesers told reporters in Minsk on November 12, reproted Belta.

There should be at least three flights a day between our capitals. One flight operated by a Latvian company is not enough, Ainars Slesers said. According to him, the Latvian side is ready to introduce two more daily flights beginning April 2009. "If Minsk is ready, we welcome any number of flights," the Minister added.

Belarus' First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication Nikolai Verkhovets said that the Belarusian side is considering the introduction of the new flights to Riga on the parity basis: one flight is operated by a Latvian airline carrier, the other one - by Belavia. "The relevant task has been set and I think Belarus will make a decision regarding the new direct flight as early as in January 2009," Nikolai Verkhovets added.
