Meeting over cybercrime held in Belarus

MINSK, Belarus, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Security authorities were in Belarus Wednesday to discuss cybercrime and help the country implement international standards to prevent cybercrime.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe organized the conference on cybercrime in Belarus. Top officials from the Belarusian government and experts from the Council of Europe met to discuss the ongoing threats from cybercrime in the country, the OSCE reported.

The conference, held in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, also was designed to help leaders in Belarus integrate international standards on combating computer crime. Belarus, as a part of the 56-member OSCE, is required to meet international commitments concerning cybercrime.

"Our office has been promoting the fulfillment of United Nations conventions on corruption and money laundering, and we are ready to work with our Belarusian institutional partners to help them tackle cybercrime cases," Ambassador Hans-Jochen Schmidt, head of the OSCE Office in Minsk, said in a statement.
