Belarus: Latvia interested in Belarusian electricity supplies

Latvia is interested in buying Belarusian electricity, Latvian Economy Minister Kaspars Gerhards told reporters in Riga on Wednesday. He said that his country would likely to face an electricity shortage following the scheduled closure of the Ignalina nuclear power plant near the Belarusian border. "After the closure of the Ignalina plant, we will naturally look for suppliers," the minister said. "It could be Russian electricity supplied via Belarus through the Smolensk, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia line," he said, noting that there however were "technical restrictions." He said that Latvia also could buy electricity from Ukraines nuclear power plant Rivne.
