Belarus: Ministry of Defense against opposition in army

Activist of the Belarusian Popular Front Zmitser Zhaleznichenka will receive a short leave as late as possible by the order of the Ministry of Defense, Charter 97 website reports.

Like other soldiers, who have served the same term, soldier Zhaleznichenka, who has been serving more than 300 days in transports forces in Zhlobin, has the right to leave.

Zmitser Zhaleznichenka explained that he is in the so called risk group and will be among the last soldiers to receive a leave.

"They said I will be the last who will be given a leave. There is a respective instruction of the Ministry of Defense. I am in the so called risk group because I refused to give an oath to allegiance. By the way, a leave was shortened up to 10 days. I want to take a leave three month before my service term expires. I'll go to university, take my documents out of there," Zmitser Zhaleznichenka told in an interview to Radio Svaboda.

Zmitser, former A-level student of Frantsysk Skaryna Homel State University, is taken away is text-books by KGB officers.

"There is guy Sheleh, lieutenant of the KGB. He wears a leather jacket. He tried to talk with me several times, when I was in an enlistment office. But now he doesn't remember we spoke with him. I have a bookshelf in a classroom, where I keep all my books. Once, I got books In Belarusian Army by Pechanko and Dialogs with God by Akudovich. I read them and kept them there. I asked the squadron commander what had happened. I knew that our guy couldn't take them. The commander said that our KGB officer and another one of Minsk had come. They took away books. It is unknown where they took them to, they didn't have a sanction for this.

I was taken a disk, but local commanders drew up a protocol of seizure, they were allegedly sent for examination. I didn't receive them back, though I have this protocol. But this time they just took them away and went," Zmitser Zhaleznichenka said.

Being in the army, Zmitser reads technical literature on programming first of all, it was his speciality in university. He doesn't want to write army essays so far.

"Of course, I have some thoughts on what it is going here. But they are of personal character. I wouldn't like to describe life of soldier in the 800yth time. Will my thought be interesting for anyone, if they may be interesting? When I have time and a desire, I will try to write something. Time will show," Zmitser says.
