Minister targets 1.7 million fixed broadband users by 2010

Belarus' Minister of Communications and Informatisation Nikolai Pantelei says the country will be home to 1.7 million fixed broadband users in 2010, while a further 3.6 million people will be accessing the internet via wireless technologies. Local online news portal e-Belarus.org writes that the minister made his announcement to support the government's adoption of 'The programme of Innovational Development in the Telecommunications Sphere for the 2008-2010 Period, which is designed to stimulate market growth. According to Pantelei, the number of internet users in the country increased to 2.8 million by the end of 2007.
