Belarus seeks closer cooperation with Netherlands in agriculture

Belarus is interested in more active cooperation with the Netherlands in agriculture, Vladimir Gusakov, Deputy Chairman of the NASB Presidium, Academician-Secretary of the agrarian sciences division, said at the opening of the first Netherlands-Belarus scientific and practical forum on November 27. The event is hosted by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB).

Vladimir Gusakov noted that "Belarus seeks all-round cooperation with the Netherlands". In his words, Belarusian companies are interested in raising foreign investments including from the Netherlands in vegetable and potato production, processing of farm produce, implementing new technology in cattle breeding and farming. Therefore, the projects, which will be presented at the forum by the Dutch businessmen, are of great interest. This will bring new contacts between companies, reported Belta.

"We need investment to upgrade production in all sectors of the agricultural industry. The more we have foreign investment, the faster we will reach the progress," he said.

Belarusian producers have gained some experience of cooperating with the Dutch companies. The partners from the Netherlands supply Belarus with hothouse equipment, selection seeds, seedlings, understratum and fertilisers for hothouses, informed Vladimir Gusakov. According to him, now the cooperation should become more fruitful and focused.

Vladimir Gusakov said that the Netherlands-Belarus investment forum has become the first joint event involving foreign investors after Belarus' Investment Forum in London. In Great Britain Belarus presented its investment projects and offered cooperation. This time businessmen from the Netherlands have brought their projects to Belarus. This shows that Belarus' economy is open to investors and that the investment climate in Belarus is becoming more attractive, Vladimir Gusakov resumed.
