Belarus is Working on Home Assignment to Improve Ties With Eu - Vice PM

MINSK. Nov 5 (Interfax) - Belarus is ready to take concrete steps to improve relations with the EU and expects the EU to follow suit, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said at a Wednesday meeting in Minsk with Hughes Mingarelli, Deputy Director General of the Directorate General for External Relations of the European Commission.

"The Belarusian side realizes the need to work on its so-called home assignment indicated in the dialogue with the EU but expects due reply moves on the part of the EU," Kobyakov said.

"The latest steps of Belarus and the European Union are opening up a new page in relations," he said. The decision to lift artificial restrictions and barriers in relations is a good step on the part of the EU and the Belarusian side hopes that "the process will be gaining momentum."
