Festival celebrated in west

This year's Sydney Festival will once again take its annual celebration to the suburbs, with events to be held in Parramatta and Penrith during January.

In line with Premier Nathan Rees's vision to see more arts and cultural activities decentralised from the city into the west, the festival will focus on events for children and their families.

The 2009 program would bring events to Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park and Penrith, Mr Rees said.

Being Harold Pinter will be performed by the Belarus Free Theatre at the Q Theatre Penrith from January 14 to 17.

The play splices transcripts from Belarusian political prisoners with scenes from Pinter's plays and extracts from his Nobel Prize speech.

Established in 2005, Belarus Free Theatre is an underground theatre project set up specifically to produce uncensored work.
