Azerbaijani, Belarus presidents meet in private

Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus had a one-on-one meeting on Thursday, the AzerTaj state news agency reported.

The Belarus leader praised trade relations between the two countries, saying "our bilateral trade has seen an 11-fold increase recently".

"But it falls way behind our potential. Countries like Azerbaijan and Belarus can easily exceed a 500-million limit. And the most important is that we managed to reach a 110-percent increase in our trade despite global financial and economic crisis when other countries see their trade fall."

President Lukashenko touched upon joint projects between Azerbaijan and Belarus.

"We are creating joint ventures, we are working for our domestic markets and then, together, we make it to the markets of third countries. These are good prospects."

"We enjoy your support of our projects within Azerbaijan, and it makes us pleased. You can be sure that we will fulfill every option of what we have agreed on."

President Ilham Aliyev praised the two countries` relations as "dynamic and effective".

"For the last few years we made three official visits respectively to Azerbaijan and Belarus, and this means we have a very effective dialogue and that we realize our ideas".

"Relatively recently we had Azerbaijan`s embassy open in Belarus and the Belarusian embassy in Azerbaijan. It was just three years ago but we`ve made a tremendous work ever since."

"I`m confident we will continue working together to strengthen our political cooperation and realize new economic projects," said the Azerbaijani President.

The President also stressed the importance of his Minsk visit, saying "I believe it will help us find concrete solutions and strengthen our partnership".
