Belarus is interested in the Odessa-Brody oil transportation project, Ukraine's ambassador to Belarus, Igor Likhoviy, has said.
"Earlier, Ukraine's signals about Odessa-Brody, a new oil corridor from the Caspian Sea to the north of the continent, were ignored but now we can see that Belarus has heard them," Likhoviy said, according to the Ukrainian media.
"We are told that the proposal is being considered by experts and Belarus is interested in this project but is not taking part in it for many reasons," Likhoviy said. "One reason is that the project has not been launched in full and a weak link is guarantees that the pipe will be filled."
He said, "We should take into account that Belarus has its interests in the Caspian and Central Asian region and it develops contacts with Azerbaijan and Iran. Not price trading but the security of supplies is at issue. The problems of technical safety of oil pipelines have become frequent."
