MTS Belarus' subscriber base up to 2 mln people as of December 1

MINSK, Dec 1 (Prime-Tass) -- The subscriber base of Belarusian-Russian joint venture Mobile TeleSystems, or MTS Belarus, increased 3.4% in November to 2 million subscribers as of December 1, a spokesperson with the company told Prime-Tass Thursday.

As of December 1, the company's GSM 900/1800 network covered 54.5% of the country's territory, and its network comprised more than 1,100 base stations, compared with 1,000 base stations as of November 1, the spokesperson said.

MTS Belarus was registered in April 2002 and started commercial operations in June 2002. The company's key shareholders are Belarus' Mezhdugorodnaya Svyaz (Intercity Communications) with 51% and Russia's largest mobile phone operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) with 49%.
