Belarus still angry over waste repository

By TBT staff

VILNIUS - Belarus representatives, ignoring arguments by Lithuania, have continued to voice concern over the Baltic state's plans to build a radioactive waste repository close to the border with Belarus, near the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant.

At a farewell meeting with Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Ceslovas Jursenas, outgoing Belarusian Ambassador to Lithuania Vladimir Gorkun said that Belarus, which had been strongly affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant catastrophe, reacted very sensitively to these intentions.

Implementation of Lithuania's plans would not contribute to the improvement of relations between the two neighboring countries, Parliament's public relations department reported him as saying.
