Belarus, Sudan sign agreements on deeper cooperation

MINSK, December 19 (Itar-Tass) - Belarus and Sudan have signed a package of agreements on deeper cooperation in information, physical culture and sports.

The two countries also initialled an agreement on protection of mutual investments.

"Belarus attaches great importance to stronger cooperation with Sudan," Belarussian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov said after the signing. "We see Sudan not only as one of the largest African states rich in natural resources, but also as a state with great future."

His Sudanese counterpart Lam Akol Ajawin pointed out that a peace agreement has been in force in Sudan for almost two years. But Sudan faces serious difficulties, as it has not yet received material aid of 4.5 billion U.S. dollars many countries had pledged to provide.

"It is too difficult to finance development programs from our own budget," Ajawin said.
