Belarus FM calls UN General Assembly resolution a leaflet

MINSK, December 21 (Itar-Tass) - The Belarussian Foreign Ministry has called a leaflet for a propagandist campaign the resolution on human rights violations that was passed by the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

"We consider this document as a leaflet prepared for the use in a propagandist anti-Belarussian campaign," Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Popov, told a news briefing on Thursday.

He said that the "accusations contained in the resolution are not new".

"Our opponents permanently use them in the bilateral relations and in regional organisations. At present, they are trying to drag into this aggressive propagandist campaign of discrediting Belarus the UN General Assembly respected but us," Popov said.

He added that the "content of the document is based on making invalid accusations, and the process of adopting the resolution on unwillingness and a lack of interest to hear the Belarussian side".

Popov said that the "resolution does not create either political or other consequences and obligations for Belarus".

He stressed that the "adoption of the resolution will not have a negative impact on Belarus' cooperation" with the UN in the human rights area.
