Too early for Russian-Belarussian unification referendum - Veshnyakov

MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - The time has yet to come to hold a referendum on the unification of Russia and Belarus, Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) chairman Alexander Veshnyakov said.

"I see no serious prerequisites for the ripening of the conditions for this unification referendum to be held in 2007," the CEC chairman said at a press conference on Monday.

Veshnyakov added that he spoke on the matter many times and as of now "the situation surrounding the resolution of the issue has not changed."
