Gazprom ensures gas is supplied to Europe in full

RBC, 28.12.2006, Moscow 19:00:23.Gazprom will supply natural gas to Eastern Europe in full, Sergei Kupriyanov, a spokesman for the company, told journalists today. He said that Gazprom would find a means of unhindered gas transit via the company's pipeline through the territory of Belarus.

Kupriyanov pointed out that the main difference between the current situation and that with Ukraine lied in the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, through which Gazprom transported export gas for Europe. Kupriyanov said that according to preliminary data some 300bn cubic meters of gas were transported in 2006 and only 14.5bn cubic meters via Beltransgaz's pipeline system. Kupriyanov said that both the gas that is transported via the Yamal-Europe pipeline and the Belarusian stretch of the pipeline belonged to Gazprom, as the land underneath it had been leased by the company.
