Belarus says gas price deal with Russia made

MINSK. Dec 30 (Interfax-West) - Alexander Timoshenko, spokesman for the Belarussian prime minister, said on Saturday evening that Belarus and Russia had agreed the price for Russian natural gas to be imported into Belarus in 2007 and terms for the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Belarus.

Timoshenko, who was speaking in Minsk, did not name the price that had supposedly been agreed but said an agreement had been reached on the purchase by the Russian side of half the capital in Belarussian gas transmission company Beltransgaz and on terms of payment for the stake.

However, a spokesman for Russian gas monopoly Gazprom told Interfax: "We have no information on this, but we would like to believe that common sense will take the upper hand."
