Belarus to loosen rules on foreign travel

MINSK. Dec 21 (Interfax) - Belarus' Interior Ministry has handed over to the State Border Guard Committee a database on persons who have restrictions on going abroad, the Committee chief said on Friday.

"On December 29, officials serving at the State Border Guard Committee and interior services will hold a joint conference where we will definitively coordinate our moves and confirm our readiness for the use of an automated system of border control," Igor Rachkovsky told reporters.

Putting the automated system in operation would make it possible to enforce the presidential decree that abolishes with effect from January 1 the rule that those wishing to travel abroad need a stamp permitting them to leave the country, Rachkovsky said.
