Belarus KGB persecutes Gomel journalist being angry at new satellite TV channel

Sergei Podsasonny, a journalist from Gomel, has applied to the regional prosecutor's office with a complaint against actions of the Belarus KGB authority of Gomel region, online paper Khartiya'97 reports.

In an interview to BelaPAN news agency Podsasonny told that on November 26 right from his house he was unexpectedly taken to the KGB office. He was questioned there about his journalistic activities and his possible cooperation with the Polish satellite TV channel BelSat which is to start broadcasting for Belarus on December 10. The journalist assumes that some of secret services' informers might have noticed him with a video camera and hurried to inform his bosses about that. The next day Podsasonny addressed the headship of the KGB directorate in Gomel region and the prosecutor's office a complaint against actions of the security services' officers. Khartiya'97 adds that another incident took place on December 5 in the Central Park of Gomel, where the same KGB officer interrogated him the previous month approached the journalist and was threatening him.
