Dozens of activists arrested across Belarus

The Associated Press

MINSK, Belarus Police have arrested dozens of opposition activists across Belarus after a series of protests marking international Human Rights Day.

Activists carrying placards reading "I'm a Political Prisoner!" and wearing mock prison clothing marched outside the Minsk headquarters of the Belarusian KGB.

Riot police moved in after about 10 minutes and herded them into vans.

Another nine were arrested Wednesday outside a Minsk department store after they began handing out copies of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Four activists were arrested in the western city of Grodno.

Belarus' president, Alexander Lukashenko, has been dubbed "Europe's last dictator" for his 14-year iron-fisted rule.
