TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and Belarus stressed the importance of promoting relations in political and economic affairs.

Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki held talks with Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky.

The Iranian minister arrived in Minsk, Belarus, on Thursday at the head of a politico-economic delegation on a two-day visit.

Mottaki and Sidorsky discussed ways to develop cooperation in the fields of trade and investment.

The minister welcomed Belarus participation in Iran's economic sector particularly in areas including energy and exploration of oil fields.

"Ties between Tehran and Minsk are growing based on mutual interests and respect," the Islamic republic news agency quoted Mottaki as saying.

He added that the two countries' officials have a resolve to strengthen mutual ties.

The Belarusian premier praised the visit by the Iranian delegation and said Iranian and Belarusian companies engaged in economic activities have potential to bolster cooperation in the face of the current economic crisis in the world.
