A regular session of PAUBR to open in Minsk on Tuesday

MINSK, December 16 (Itar-Tass) - A regular, the 35th, session of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Union of Belarus and Russia (UBR) opens here on Tuesday.

An official in the PA press service has told Itar-Tass that those present at the session will examine chiefly organisational matters. Members of the newly elected Belarus parliament will take part in the session for the first time.

In this connection, one of the main items on the agenda is to vest the parliamentarians delegated by the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus with powers. It is also planned to elect a First Deputy Chairman of the PA. Earlier the post was filled by Vadim Popov, ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Thirty-six deputies from each country are represented in the PA. Measures to eliminate drawbacks in arrangements for the drafting of the programmes of the Union State and refine the budgetary process are also to be considered at the session. The parliamentarians are to discuss plans for 2009 international activities.
