Lukashenko hopes to discuss gas supply issue with Russia

MINSK. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he intends to discuss with the Russian administration the supply of natural gas to Belarus in 2009. "Every year, the talks are difficult, and the same may happen this year. We will meet with the Russian administration in the nearest future to discuss the [price] issue," Lukashenko told reporters during a visit to the Minsk region. "The world prices on gas are falling due to the fall on the oil prices. On one hand, it is good. But we should take into account the fact that we have not purchased gas from Russia at world prices," said Lukashenko. Lukashenko said, citing expert evaluations, that "the oil prices will grow after this fraudulent crisis." "There is no guarantee that the gas price will not go up with the rising oil prices," Lukashenko said adding: "We still should not hope that gas will be cheap." "Gas is not cheap, and we don't know how much it will cost tomorrow," said Lukashenko.
