Belarus ready to cooperate with OSCE ODIHR in improving election legislation

Belarus is ready to conduct a dialogue with the OSCE ODIHR on the issues of improving the Belarusian election legislation, Andrei Popov, spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, said at a briefing.

"The ODIHR hailed our proposal to hold consultations and expressed intention to visit Belarus at the level of the Bureau top officials," Andrei Popov said. The Belarusian side has already sent an official invitation to the ODIHR authorities to visit Belarus, reported BelTa.

The ODIHR mission final report related to the observation of the parliamentary elections is being currently analyzed by the Belarusian state institutions. The National Centre for Legislation and Legal Research is to secure the all-round legal expertise.

In January 2009, Minsk is expected to host the consultations on the ODIHR final report and defining further cooperation areas between Belarus and the OSCE ODIHR.
