Gazprom, Belarus Discuss Gas Price for Q1

MOSCOW. Dec 31 (Interfax) - Officials from Russia's gas giant Gazprom (RTS: GAZP) and Beltransgaz are still engaged in negotiations on gas prices for the first quarter of next year, but the absence of a decision on the matter does not jeopardize natural gas deliveries to Belarus and gas transit across the country.

"The way this formula will function was specified at the working level yesterday. [Gazprom's executive board deputy chairman] Valery Alexandrovich Golubev met with Belarus' delegation. Our Belarusian colleagues have left to discuss this formula. I hope no problems will come up, especially as negotiations on the contract's price- setting formula took place as a follow-up to agreements reached during President Lukashenko's visit and his meetings with the Russian president and the prime minister," Gazprom's executive board deputy chairman Alexander Medvedev told journalists on Wednesday.

Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said that talks on gas prices for the first quarter of 2009 can be held with Belarus at any moment.

After the price is agreed upon, a recalculation will be conducted with Beltransgaz, he added.

"Against a backdrop of these events [Gazprom's negotiations with Ukraine], relations with Belarusian colleagues look quite good," Medvedev said.
