Belarus, China to discuss trade and economic cooperation in Beijing December 1-5

Belarus and the People's Republic of China are planning to discuss the bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation including the process of implementation of large joint investment projects, setting up of joint ventures and banking cooperation. These issues will be considered at the 10th session of the Belarusian-Chinese commission for trade and economic cooperation in Beijing December 1-5, BelTA learnt from the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The Belarusian delegation will be led by Chairman of the Belarusian part of the commission, Chairman of the State Control Committee Zenon Lomat and Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian part of the commission, First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko. Belarusian businessmen will make part of the delegation as well.

Zenon Lomat is expected to hold several meetings in the PRC State Council, the PRC Control Ministry and large Chinese corporations.

The People's Republic of China is one of the most important foreign trading partners of Belarus. Over the nine months of 2008, PRC took the eighth place in trade among Belarus' foreign trading partners.

Belarus mainly exports to China chemical products, potash fertilizers, trucks, spare parts and equipment for trucks and tractors, electronic integrated circuits and microassembly. Belarus imports Chinese equipment, component parts and materials for the companies engaged in industry, communications, wood-working, light and medical areas, consumer goods. In 2003-2008, China invested nearly $208 million in the Belarusian economy.

Today several Belarusian industrial companies have their representative offices and dealers in the People's Republic of China (the Belarusian Potash Company, the Minsk Tractor Works, the Belarusian Automobile Works and others).
