Minsk is concerned over situation on Belarus-Polish border

MINSK. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Belarus hopes that Polish authorities will restore the order on the Belarus-Polish border from the Polish side.

"We hope that the Polish authorities will restore order on the Belarus-Polish border on the side of Poland and provide for normal regime for movement of commodities and people," Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Popov told journalists on Friday commenting on protest actions of Polish truck drivers on the Belarus-Polish border.

"Naturally, these reports are causing us serious concern. It is impossible to say that a situation is normal when the zone of vitally important economic interests of a number of states has become a hostage to various domestic problems in Poland," Popov said.

Belarusian Border State Committee spokesman Alexander Tishchenko said the truck traffic is partially blocked on checkpoints Kuznitsa Belostokskaya-Bruzgi and Kukuryki-Kozlovichi.

"The checkpoints are blocked on the Polish side by truck drivers dissatisfied by innovations in the customs law of Poland. If the situation does not change, then it is possible to expect long queues on these routes," Tishchenko said. Car traffic across the border was not interrupted, he said.

Tishchenko advised car drivers to choose the Lithuanian direction for getting to Europe from Belarus.

"From the Polish side, extra police, border and customs forces are arriving at the checkpoints. Belarus completely controls the situation on its territory," he said.
