Belarus authorities accuse opposition of planning Election Day unrest

Belarusian authorities believe that the opposition intends to organize mass disorders on the day of presidential elections, slated for December 19. This was announced by Belarus Presidential Administration head Vladimir Makei, appearing on a state television channel. According to him, groups of militants are undergoing special training; pyrotechnical devices and even explosive means are being accumulated.

The official noted that the Belarus authorities have the means and resources to respond adequately. 10 candidates are contesting the Presidential post in Belarus, including incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko, who is running for the fourth term.
