United States cannot consider the election results of Belarus as legitimate, according to US State Dep. official webs site, US Assistant Secretary Philip J. Crowley said in a daily press briefing.
US diplomat expressed concerns over force implementation by the authorities and detention of people.
"The United States strongly condemns all election day violence in Belarus. We are especially concerned over excessive force by the authorities, including the beating and detention of several presidential candidates and violence against journalists and civil society activists. The Government of Belarus should release immediately those detained and caution authorities to use restraint in the coming days and not to harm, threaten, or further detain those exercising their basic rights. The United States concurs with the assessment of the OSCE. We cannot consider the election results yesterday as legitimate."
