Nine Russians arrested for protests in Minsk

Nine Russian nationals were detained as part of arrests made during a recent unauthorized protest in Minsk. This came in a statement by the press secretary of the Russian embassy in Belarus Vadim Gusev. Some of the nine will have to stay behind bars for up to 15 days.

Almost 80% of voters cast their ballots for the incumbent Alexander Lukashenko in the presidential election on Sunday, December 19th.

The opposition called an unauthorized rally in Minsk and tried to take the government building by storm. This prompted police to arrest hundreds of protesters, including opposition leaders.
