The Belarusian commander of the Air Force and Air Defense has been detained on suspicion of abuse of authority, following the re-election of the country's president.
The Belarusian Defense Ministry said in a statement that Igor Azarenok has been arrested "according to an article of the criminal code on abuse and negligence of authority."
It is unclear whether Azarenok was arrested in connection with the post-election crackdown on opposition supporters.
About 600 protesters were arrested following the December 19 elections.
The Belarus election commission has announced President Alexander Lukashenk as the winner, while Western observers and opposition supporters have rejected the vote result as fraud.
Police arrested candidates Andrei Sannikov, Nikolai Statkevich, Rygor Katusev and Vitaly Rymanshevsky following the protests.
