Moscow expects Minsk to release Russians ASAP

Moscow expects the Russian citizens detained in Minsk on December 19 to be released as soon as possible, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.

The Foreign Ministry is now taking all necessary measures to resolve the situation.

After the December 19 presidential vote in Belarus, the opposition, dissatisfied with the victory of incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, instigated an unsanctioned rally in the centre of Minsk, which was broken up by police.

More than 600 people, including opposition leaders and 11 Russians were detained.
