THE swan princess returns to Shanghai this week as the National Ballet Theater of Belarus present their version of
"Swan Lake" at Shanghai Grand Theater on Wednesday and Thursday.
"Swan Lake" is one of the most popular ballets and is featured in the repertoire of almost every ballet troupe.
There are more than 400 versions of "Swan Lake" in the world, and local audiences are usually overwhelmed with dozens of versions by different troupes, especially when New Year is approaching.
The National Ballet Theater of Belarus is considered as one of the top ballet schools in creation and performance, along with other schools in Russia and Ukraine.
The National Ballet Theater of Belarus has enjoyed such a high reputation for more than 70 years.
Famous choreographer Valentin Yelizariev is the artistic director of the troupe and contributes to their choreography of "Swan Lake."
"The performance by the National Ballet Theater of Belarus
is typical Russian style," says Bai Shuxiang, vice president of the Central Ballet Troupe of China.
"Their version is more dramatic, with an attractive plot. And of course, they have great dancers with strong technique."
The Ballet will tour 11 cities in China including Shanghai, Beijing and Nanjing.
