MINSK, January 7 (Itar-Tass) - Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko congratulated his people upon Orthodox Christmas.
He paid a tribute to respect of the Belarussian Orthodox Church, which deeds "serve for unification, stronger confidence and mutual understanding in the society."
Eighty percent of Belarus' believers are Orthodox Christians.
The service to mark the birth of the Christ was held by Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Filaret in the Cathedral of Holy Spirit in Minsk.
