MINSK, Belarus, JAN. 25, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusievicz has taken ecumenical experience gained in Russia and used it to aid efforts toward Christian unity in his native Belarus.
Archbishop Kondrusievicz was appointed to Minsk-Mohilev last September, after five years leading the Mother of God Archdiocese in Moscow.
Thursday in Minsk, the archbishop organized a first for Belarus -- an ecumenical prayer meeting in the Minsk Cathedral of the Name of the Most Holy Virgin Mary.
Archbishop Kondrusievicz began the event by celebrating Mass. Afterward, the prayer service included participants from the Belarusian Orthodox Church, Greek Catholics in Belarus, the Lutheran community and the Belarusian Biblical Association.
The archbishop addressed the group, affirming that unity among Christians is demanded by our secularized times, in which challenges threaten the common good of humanity.
