Belarus is set to increase the trade turnover with Turkmenistan to US $ 1 billion by 2010, Belarusian vice premiere Alexander Kosinets said at a meeting of the Turkmen-Belarusian intergovernmental commission for trade-economic cooperation today. According to the Belarusian telegraph news agency (BelTA), in 2007 trade between the two countries grew sevenfold in comparison with the previous year and reached more than US $ 90 million.
"Belarus regards Turkmenistan as an important partner and plans to further the relations with Turkmenistan in future," Akexander Kosinets said. According to him, the two countries have to develop not only economic partnership but also cooperate in the sphere of education, culture, sports and tourism.
During the meeting, Turkmen vice premiere Hydyr Saparliyev proposed to take an inventory of the legal framework of the bilateral relations and prepare new documents to be signed in the course of the Turkmenistan president's visit to Minsk.
