According to reports from online news journal e-belarus.org, Belarus' dominant fixed line operator Beltelecom launched 105 Wi-Fi hotpsots in the second half of last year, of which 70 were in the capital Minsk and 35 were in regional and district centres. The national PTO's business model for Wi-Fi envisages installing hotspots in hotels, libraries, schools and colleges, restaurants and at Beltelecom's own sites, under the brand name ByFly. The company inaugurated ByFly in July 2007, deploying seven hotspots in the launch phase with a maximum transmission speed of 1Mbps. The service was free during the test period which ran from July 2007 to 1 January 2008.
