Slovakia - Declaration of the MFA on the current developments in Belarus
The recent steps by the leaders of Belarus are in conflict with the values of democracy, the rule of law and protection of fundamental freedoms, including that of expression. The Slovak Republic shall support the use of all tools by the European Union, including the renewal of sanctions as part of the EU policy that responds to the decision by the supreme leaders of Belarus.
The cooperation with civil society institutions shall remain one of the top priorities of the Slovak foreign policy in relation to Belarus. The Slovak Republic has condemned the use of inadequate force against the citizens of Belarus who expressed their disagreement with the manipulation of electoral results. At the same time, Slovakia has expressed deep disappointment with the failure of Belarus to extend the mandate of the OSCE offices in Minsk.
