MINSK (Thomson Financial) - Belarus's gas transit company Beltransgaz and Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom have discussed boosting Russian gas transit through Belarus, Beltransgaz's director has said.
"We are holding talks regarding a boost in transit toward (Russia's westernmost enclave of) Kaliningrad and Ukraine," Vladimir Mayorov said, adding that "technical capabilities are up to this".
According to Mayorov, last year's transit through Belarus topped the contracted amount by 5 bln cubic metres.
Earlier this week a gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine, which is another major transit route for Russian gas, raised fears of a possible disruption of gas supplies to Europe.
