Belarus to sow spring grains and leguminous plants throughout nearly 1.28 mln ha

In the current year, Belarus will sow spring grains and leguminous plants throughout the areas of 1.28 mln ha, an increase of 2% compared to the level of 2009, declared Vasiliy Pavlovskiy, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, on February 17.

According to the Deputy Minister, in 2010, buckwheat sowing areas will total 35 thsd ha, millet sowing areas - 13.8 thsd ha, brewing barley - over 90 thsd ha. Flaxseed will take nearly 1% in the structure of spring sowing areas - 50 thsd ha. Rapeseed sowing areas will widen to the level of 429.4 thsd ha, including the present winter rapeseed sowings of 422.8 thsd ha (up 9% compared to the level of 2009), maize sowing areas will occupy 133.1 thsd ha.

Agrarians applied 85.5 thsd tonnes of potash fertilizers for 2010 spring sowing campaign, according to V.Pavlovskiy.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food worked out and confirmed the complex plan of realization of field works in 2010. According to the plan, Belarus should produce 10 mln tonnes of grains.

In order to receive such grain volumes, agricultural and other organizations plan to sow grains and leguminous plants throughout the area of 2.59 mln ha (up 69.8 thsd ha compared to the level of 2009). Particularly, agrarians have sowed grains for the harvest 2010 throughout the area of over 1.31 mln ha.
