Iran and Belarus signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday for cooperation in banking, commerce and monetary transactions.
The agreement was reached between managing director of Bank Saderat Iran Hamid Borhani and the Belarus Central Bank Governor Piotr Prokopovich.
During the signing ceremony Borhani said the usury-free Islamic banking system can help control inflation, boost economic growth and provide social and economic justice.
He added that Bank Saderat Iran is keen to enhance cooperation with Belarus banks and expressed hope that increased banking activity between the two countries would bolster bilateral ties in other areas.
Prokopovich said Minsk would welcome investments by Iranian banks in the former Soviet republic's economic projects.
