MINSK. March 13 (Interfax) - The Belarussian economy grew 9% year- on-year in January-February 2007, sources in government management agencies told Interfax citing data from the Statistics and Analysis Ministry.
Industrial output grew 6.9% in the two months and agricultural output was up 5.2%.
Fixed capital investment rose 33.7%. The production of consumer goods rose 6%, but the production of foodstuffs dropped 0.3%, while non- foodstuffs rose 11.2%. Retail trade was up 21.1% in the first two months of 2007.
According to the Statistics and Analysis Ministry, Belarus' foreign trade deficit stood at $288.6 million in January 2007, including a 1.5% growth in exports and a 29.3% increase in imports. Foreign trade increased 14.9% year-on-year in January 2007.
